Public Vehicle Registration Suspended Nationwide, Including Public Electric Vehicles

The Department of Transport Management has decided to temporarily halt the registration of all new public transport vehicles across the country.

The directive was issued through an official circular on Thursday, instructing relevant ministries across all seven provinces as well as local government bodies to implement the order immediately.

According to the department, no new registrations for public transport vehicles will be processed until further notice. The restriction applies to all categories, including both fuel-powered and electric (EV) public transport vehicles.

The decision has been taken in view of growing traffic congestion, rising air pollution, increasing pressure on road infrastructure, and ongoing challenges in managing the public transport system.
